Chlamydia

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. Chlamydia is very similar to Gonorrhoea in terms of its symptoms and pattern of transmission.

Symptoms

  • Burning with urination and an abnormal vaginal discharge;
  • Abdominal or pelvic pain is sometimes present; and
  • Blood in the urine, urinary urgency (feeling an urgent need to urinate), and increased urinary frequency can occur if the urethra is infected.
  • inflammation of the urethra
  • Painful or burning sensation when urinating
  • Testicular pain or swelling
  • Fever

Treatment

The best way to avoid getting affected by Chlamydia is to use condoms while having sex unless the concerned person is absolutely sure of the fact that his or her sexual partner is not a carrier of the disease. Unless a person is very sure that his or her partner is not suffering from Chlamydia, it is wise to avoid oral sex and also use protection during oral sex. In fact while having sex with every new partner, protection should be used and tests to detect Chlamydia should be conducted between copulating with every new partner. A proper medication from doctor should be followed.
