How Can I Help Fight Trauma?

Trauma can have a deep-rooted impression in an individual. Once the symptoms of trauma are prominent, steps should be taken for fighting it so that the situation does not worsen. The following steps can be undertaken to fight trauma.

  • Connect to people

One of the best ways to fight trauma is to connect to people. It is natural for you to feel isolated when in trauma. But in order to heal, it is very important to connect to others. It is good if you talk to your people regarding your trauma. You could end up regaining quite some self-confidence.

  • Convince yourself that everything is fine

You have to convince yourself that nothing is actually wrong with you. It is the situation that is wrong and you are no way responsible for it. You have to understand and believe that if you have survived a trauma, you are not mentally ill. Seeking some help could get you back to your normal self.

  • Talk it out

You should remember that our brain records and stores traumatic memories. Those who undergo a traumatic experience tend to re-experience it. Thus in order to fight your trauma, you have to talk it out as much as possible; this would make you feel light.

  • Identify what makes you feel safe

When you are in trauma, try and identify what all make you feel safe and secure. The very concept of trauma is contradictory to safety. Hence, when you can identify any activity that would make you feel safe when you indulge in it, you must do it.

  • be rational

Trauma is such that it would try to devour your rationality. Once trauma tries to take away your power of reasoning, just overpower it and make yourself believe that all that has happened to you has been undoubtedly horrible; but it never meant anything related to you. Never think of yourself to be weak. You cannot deny the truth; at the same time you cannot hold yourself unduly responsible for whatever has happened.
