Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis is an infectious disease caused by the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis. It generally spreads through vaginal, oral, or anal sex. It can even spread through the contact of genitals.

Symptoms

  • Pain with urination or sexual intercourse
  • A profuse and often foul-smelling vaginal discharge — which may be white, gray, yellow or green
  • Irritation inside the penis
  • Genital redness, burning and itching
  • Discharge from the penis
  • Burning with urination or after ejaculation
  • Frequent urge to urinate
  • Pain during urination or sexual intercourse

Risk factors

  • Multiple sexual partners
  • A history of other STIs
  • Previous Trichomoniasis infections
  • Sex without a condom

Treatment

Avail proper medication from doctor. Always use condoms during intercourse. Make sure your sexual partner is tested properly and follow the medication, too. Not having any symptoms doesn’t mean that the infection doesn’t exist. Avoiding sexual contact for at least a week till the partners get treated is advisable.
